Saturn: Working with Earth
As we move through Capricorn and start the New Year, I would like to explore the virtues and opportunities of this often-maligned cardinal Earth sign. But first, because it is ruled by Saturn and associated with the Father archetype, we have to address the baggage attached to it over the last several millennia from the oppression of the Patriarchy. In mythology, Saturn was paranoid about a prophecy that one of his offspring would be his downfall, so he went around gobbling up his babies. Much like the brutal and controlling way our budding Oligarchs treat their underlings.
But when we are grounded like Capricorns and look at the actual planet Saturn, we see that it holds incredible beauty and sacred geometry. It doesn’t embody the arbitrary, rigid hierarchical structures that it’s come to be associated with. In fact, the north pole of Saturn shows us a perfect hexagonal storm that remains a scientific mystery and it’s ratio with it’s rings is very close to phi. The boundaries that the real Saturn would have us place are the ones that help will create this kind of natural harmony and balance. Saturn and Capricorn are masters of the physical dimension, and have the Earth wisdom to be able to find the best solutions that fit within our natural limits. We can call upon the steadfast tenacity of the goat this month to keep finding that next step up as we climb toward our lofty New Year’s resolutions.
