On March 20, the spring equinox, the sun moved in Aries, which is ruled by the red planet Mars and associated with the deep red energy of first chakra. The first chakra is the root chakra, and its raw lava can be quite overpowering, as it is tied to our basic survival instincts, and our most intense and visceral physical desires and attachments.
Elementally, Aries is Cardinal fire, making it the most explosive and raw of the fire signs. Ideally, Aries’ wildfire outbursts are reserved for protecting us when we are truly threatened and need to fight for our survival. But sometimes in our modern civilized society, the Warrior archetype can be out of place and cause more chaos and destruction than enlightened protection.
Aries tends to be self-centered and competitive. Mars sees life in terms of winning and losing, and it wants to win at any cost. This relentless drive to get ahead can be great in certain areas, and many champion athletes carry this Aries energy or have a strong Mars. Aries definitely needs a healthy outlet for its intense energy, or it will become toxic. If Aries fire is restrained too long, it can come out sideways in sudden bursts of uncontrollable rage.
It is in the realm of intimate relationships where Aries is most challenged, as relationships require the attractive and balancing love energy of its polar opposite sign, Venus ruled Libra. When Aries’ warrior energy ventures into the interpersonal world, it can create a lot of pain and suffering in relationships. Aries is much more comfortable with fighting for and defending its positions than with listening to others and trying to find a compromise. It tends to be divisive and aggressive, trying to dominate or control the conversation, and knocking out bridges of relationship in the process. It is also a hard energy to sustain, as it tends to burn so bright that it uses up all the oxygen and snuffs itself out.
So Aries tend to go through cycles, alternating between intense activity and burnout. But an Aries would definitely agree with the statement that “It’s better to burn out than fade away!” Aries has a restless questing energy that is best channeled into the archetype of the Explorer. Their iron willed determination can propel them to the tops of mountains and to the ends of the earth. But along the way, their lack of gentleness and sensitivity may cause them to lose touch with any intimate relationships that can’t keep pace with their rough wanderlust.
Aries is a youthful energy that brings renewal and new beginnings. This is a time when we can start to break free from the doldrums of winter and start taking better care of our bodies, getting more fresh air and exercise. Our big cultural ritual in Aries of course is Easter, which is all about the higher octave of Aries, that resurrecting energy of new beginnings. This is a time where new shoots push powerfully up through the ground to initiate the next cycle of life. Aries is there, prepared to fight for that new life, to protect and defend it against all threats.
This trip through Aries we are in the midst of intensifying political divisions. Look for the fighting to intensify as direct action becomes the dominant mode of protest. Aries is fierce and uncompromising, and tends to be on the front lines, tying and chaining itself to things and getting arrested. Aries likes to turn up the volume and get in people’s faces and pick fights. Like Donald Trump, and the activists and followers inciting violence at his rallies, Aries has a gift for escalating conflicts.
We have also seen an increase in terror activity with the horror in Brussels showing the most barbaric form of Aries. The kind of pure animalistic rage that drives acts of terror strikes us all in our root and creates great waves of fear and panic. It is what we do with this raw intensity that will define our character. It may take great feats of self-control to rise above our urges to retaliate. It may take all our energy to stop the cycle of violence and keep ourselves from being dragged down and lashing out. But we are ultimately spiritual beings with cerebral cortexes that can save us from acting out our ancient savage impulses. .
March 27 – Teaching T-square: Jupiter Venus and Saturn are locked in a tense T-square aspect today. The Jupiter Venus opposition from Virgo to Pisces lines up closely with the current nodal axis, so this is great time to learn the spiritual lesson of discernment that we are collectively working on. With Venus in Pisces, we are all feeling that divine dissatisfaction with the world as it is, wishing for a more unified utopian world with less division and suffering. But Pisces can be a hot mess of exaggeration, addiction, and delusion too. It can be full of wishful thinking with little follow through. Pisces would like to wave a magic wand and make changes instantaneously, but with this aspect pattern we’re going to have to get down in the trenches and pull up our sleeves and do some dirty work. Jupiter is there in Virgo showing us how to take that urge to serve and channel it into practical concrete actions that can bring those big Pisces dreams into reality, one tiny bite sized piece at a time. Saturn in Sagittarius is the outlet point of this aspect pattern, so hard work is being called for if we are going to bring a more utopian world into being. So make time to work on your big dreams and ideas today. Make a plan with steps and stages and start making your heart happier, one practical task at a time. This is a time when you can expand your awareness of what your soul intensions were for this incarnation. Study those soul blueprints and start building your dreams into being!
April 7th – New Fire Moon: The New Moon in Aries is very close to Uranus in Aries, which has been revolutionizing and empowering us for some time now, locked in a transformational square dance with Pluto in Capricorn since 2010. Look for this Sun/Moon combo to shine some light on new technologies and innovations that are changing the foundations of our reality and empowering us as individuals to be free. One of the biggest limits on our freedom is the limits of our current energy technology, but we are poised at the precipice of great breakthroughs. The Martin Fleischmann Memorial Project set out several years ago to reclaim the reputations of cold fusion pioneers Fleischmann and Ponn by pushing the burgeoning science of low energy nuclear reactions (LENR) forward in a crowdfunded process they call “live open science”. They lovingly call the clean and abundant energy that is about to be unleashed into the world the “New Fire”. They recently had a breakthrough in their experiments where excess heat was exactly correlated with gamma activity, and they published their recipe. There are many replication attempts currently underway. But we shouldn’t have to wait long to be amazed as they are still several years behind Andrea Rossi and his E-cat, who will be releasing a third party validation of a commercial 1 megawatt E-cat installation that ran continuously for a year this month. The leaked rumors from the copy of the report that has circulated to investors is that it maintained a COP of 20 which means it produced 20 times more energy that was input into it, all from tiny amounts of nickel, lithium, and hydrogen. We are truly at the dawn of a new energy revolution that will make things that were once impossible quite possible!
